Classes Available
Open Hatha classesOpen Hatha classes are run on a drop-in basis (see Timetable), so they are open to everybody and take place each week throughout the year. (except for a short break of a few weeks over Christmas and Bank Holiday Mondays)
Open Hatha classes involve a full repertoire of postures, sun salutations, breathing exercises and guided relaxation techniques. Further, there is usually a theme to the class each week, covering an important aspect of Yoga, such as; 'listening with the body', 'how to use the breath', 'grounding oneself', 'observing the mind', and so on...
Typically, classes will have students with a wide range of ability and experience. Beginners are welcome to attend these classes, but it is recommended that they also consider joining one of our beginner's courses to learn the basics of Hatha Yoga from the ground up. Class numbers are typically around 20 in drop-in classes, but naturally this can vary from week to week.

Beginners Courses
The classes cover the 12 main postures of Sivananda yoga (asanas), Pranayama (breathing techniques), an introduction to Surya Namaska (the sun salutation), and meditation. It is suitable for complete beginners and provides an excellent start to the practice.
Intermediate Hatha Courses
These courses provide much more intimate and detailed instruction and are a natural evolution for keen students. They will allow you to go much deeper into all aspects of your yoga; pranayama, meditation, and ethical considerations. These need to be booked and paid for in advance. They typically run for up to a 12 week period. Missed classes can be redeemed at Angus' Open classes at Chatham Hall.
Meditation (Raja Yoga) Courses
There comes a time for many Hatha Yoga students when they wish to go deeper into their Yoga practice. Raja yoga is that natural progression. Lead by Angus, the group explores practical skills in how to apply the wisdom of yoga in daily life; bringing more harmony to relationships, work and the home. See the Meditation pages for full details.
